HISTORY Morocco has been inhabited since very early prehistoric times, as many prehistoric remains show. Then came the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Berbers, Byzantine, Romans and Vandals before the Arab invasion which took place in the 8th century.
Morocco offers a blending of traditions which impact its culture: mixed with the Arab foundation are distinct influences from Andalusia in Spain, as well as the strong evidence of the French occupation. These traits are apparent in the music, the language, the culture and the cuisine of Morocco.

LANGUAGES
Apart from classical Arabic, the languages of education, a dialectal Arab is spoken.
Most Moroccans speak French and many speak Spanish in the Northern (Tangier, Tetouan) and Southern parts of Morocco (Laayoune, Dakhla). German and English are spoken as a foreign language by those who studied and people who work in the tourism field.

MUSIC Moroccan music is of many types; it includes Arab, Berber, classical, and Popular elements. Musicians perform in concerts, in cafes, at private homes, at circumcision ceremonies, marriages, funerals, and religious processions and in accompaniment to dancing and storytelling.
